Fukuoka is the fourth largest city in Japan, with a population of over 5 million. It is located on Kyusyu island in the south of the main island of Japan, and is a 3-hr flight from Tokyo.

Due to its geographical location, Fukuoka is also known as the gateway to the other major Asian cities. It is 1 hour to Seoul (Korea), 1.5 hours to Shanghai, 2 hours to Taipei (Taiwan) and 2.5 hours to Hong Kong.

In tandem with the New IT Reform Strategy, began in January 2006 by the government, Fukuoka Prefecture has been engaged in the advancement of the IT industry from early on. About 2,000 IT related companies have located to Fukuoka, and the city is becoming the premier IT industry cluster in Japan.

Aqua Hakata will be one of the most advanced buildings in Fukuoka as the building was designed based on the specification of new buildings in Tokyo. Most other buildings in Fukuoka are not in Class-A under the standard in Tokyo.
